Below, the BHLS approaches in all over the following countries, as a first overview, presented during the first plenaries :
Presentation from Germany could be available, however a very interesting "Metrobus" concept has been launched in Hamburg (see the great presentation of Hamburg experience), then in Berlin and Munich, focusing on investment and indentification of the most capacitive bus-based routes, well connected to structuring network.

The BHLS trends of Sweden was presented, focusing first on the first big experience, the trunk network implemented in Stockholm in the 90ties, with specific blue buses for all these 5 lines, showing first great results with ridership. Other cities are now very interested, as we observe several new and different experiences, such as in the City of Göteborg since November 2005, in Jönköping since 2001, in Lund since 2003.

The CIVIS project in Bologne
During the Madrid meeting (October 2008), the Public Transportation as well as BHLS trends in Italy has been presented.
The PT situation in Italy has been presented in comparison with some other EU countries, such as UK, Germany, France, Sweden...
The BHLS trends analysis come from an extensive surveys amongst several authorities and operators in Italie.
Several difficulties to launch BHLS projects are highlighted, such as one of the highest rate of car ownership in EU, weak concentration of operators in market, a low level of the fares, a low level of investement, old and narrow cities, difficulties to protect the bus lanes... However some best practices appear...

During the Dublin meeting ( february 2008), Dublin city presented the large "Quality Bus Corridor" network that has been launched since 2000 in Dublin; around 200 km have been already into service.
Only Dublin have launched such a wide BHLS approach.

France launched in september 2005 its own concept called “Buses with a high level of service“ (BHLS), taking into account the methodology of the “Bus Rapid Transit” concept developed in the USA, as well as, experiences from several French authorities, such as Île de France, Rouen and Nantes.
As a first definition :
The Buses with a High Level of Service (known by its French acronym BHLS), is a road-based public transport concept that applies to all conurbations regardless of size, developed to promote bus projects with efficient, primary structuring routes that play a decisive role in future transport networks.
